Visit Skye

You may not want to leave the island and we wouldn’t blame you as the temptation to relax and stay put is very strong. However, should you want to spend a day visiting the main tourist attractions on Skye, they are all within a short driving distance of Eilean Sionnach. What’s more, here on South Skye, although you’ll find it’s not too far to visit the more well known sites, you can also experience ‘off-the-beaten-track’ highlights that are missed by tourists on a whistlestop tour of the island. Subscribe to our newsletter for top tips from the locals.

Skye’s Dramatic Scenery & History

Skye’s top five tourist attractions include the capital town of Portree, The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, The Fairy Pools, and Dunvegan Castle among many others. Many tourists head for Portree, not realising how far North on the island the main town is located. Based on South Skye here at Eilean Sionnach, you can also easily access local attractions on the west coast mainland including the iconic ‘Harry Potter’ train, Glenfinnan Viaduct, the white sandy beaches of Morar, the tiny Glenelg Ferry, picturesque Plockton, and the hugely well-known and much photographed Eilean Donan Castle.

Other Things to See
& Do on Skye

Whether you enjoy finding local crafts, jewellery or souvenirs made on the island, getting out in the fresh air, music, theatre, taking part in activities or discovering new artists, there’s something for you on the Isle of Skye. In June fitness enthusiasts head to the island for the island’s 10k and half-marathon, throughout July the island is full of music as the Feis takes place and in August, it’s time for the Highland Games and also SEALL’s Festival of Words.

Eat & Drink on Skye

You may want to grab a pint or a bite to eat at the Eilean Iairmain Hotel in Isle Ornsay and sample the Gaelic Whiskies and Gins. If you’re heading out and about around South Skye, stop for coffee at An Crubh and later, take a tour of our local distillery, Torabhaig, Skye’s newest distillery. Whilst on the island, another popular stop is the Talisker Distillery, Skye’s oldest working distillery. For foodies we can recommend many of the island’s restaurants but you won’t go far wrong at Kinloch Lodge, just a stone’s throw away across the water, right here in South Skye.
