Activities
If, one day, you find you aren’t in the mood for lazing, lounging, and lying around, soaking up the atmosphere of tranquility and peace offered by the island, then there’s lots to see and do locally.
Food & Drink
A trip to the Isle of Skye should include tasting our local food and drink produce and close to Eilean Sionnach you’ll find some great places to eat and drink, including our nearest neighbour, The Eilean Iarmain Hotel and Am Praban bar. The hotel also offers tastings of its own whisky and gin. Within a couple of miles you can have breakfast, brunch or lunch looking back over to the island at An Crubh, an architect designed cafe with stunning views over the Sound of Sleat. The village shop is also located at An Crubh. Also close by you can take afternoon tea or dine at the world famous Kinloch Lodge Hotel, home of published cook book author, Lady Clare MacDonald or visit the Duisdale Hotel and enjoy a relaxed lunch in the conservatory.
Adventures
In this rugged, beautiful place there are many adventures to be had. But adventure is a word that means different things to different people. Whether paddle boarding, sea kayaking, diving or deep-sea fishing, mountaineering, climbing, biking or hiking is your thing, or whether your expectations of adventure are at a more sedate level, the Isle of Skye has something to offer you. The weather changes quickly on Skye even in the summer months, so before setting off on your adventures, we recommend you find route maps, tide times and weather information that will help keep you safe.

Nature
You need venture no further than the viewpoint behind Eilean Sionnach Lighthouse Cottage to find the perfect place to linger, waiting for seals, sea birds, dolphins and porpoises to pass by. But if you want to go further afield, head to the Otters Hide at Kylerhea for a fantastic walk and a fair chance of seeing some of Scotland’s native creatures. Further on from the Otter Hide is the Glenelg Ferry, the last manually operated turntable ferry in Scotland. Alternatively, under the pier at Armadale is a wonderful place to spend a few hours looking for crabs, blennies, sea urchins and starfish. Just along the shore from there you’ll find the resident seal colony basking in the afternoon sunshine. Or take the Armadale to Mallaig ferry and if you’re lucky, see dolphins riding the bow waves!
Arts and Crafts
You could be an artist yourself or you might use your time at Eilean Sionnach Lighthouse Cottage to rediscover your forgotten artistic talents. Either way, the sea and the mountains provide a canvas for the ever-changing light, inspiring artists and photographers alike. The village of Isle Ornsay itself and the Sleat Peninsula are home to several resident artists, including Pam Carter, Laurence Broderick and Nigel Grounds. South Skye is also a great place to find handcrafted pottery, unique silver and gold jewellery, beautiful, locally designed clothing and other unique mementos of your time on Skye.

On Eilean Sionnach
You might be greeted by a storm. You might be greeted by stillness. As the seas rise and fall about you, the lighthouse cottage holds you tight. The fire burns warm in the hearth. Sit by the fire with a dram of whisky or a good book; listen to the music of the waves; experience the wildness and beauty of this place where you can enjoy the ‘little things’ in life. When the weather’s good enough, get outdoors. Linger on the hill watching for wildlife, walk along the rugged shoreline, fill your pockets with beachcombing finds. Paint, relax, be mindful. Get out on the sea or even in or under it! However you spend your time here, you’ll find yourself stopping often to admire the views in every direction.
