A Journey Through Time and Tides on Eilean Sionnach

Jan 20, 2025

This year, we’re offering something truly unique—an experience that ties the threads of Scotland’s coastal heritage with the comforts of modern luxury.

Guided by Yaz and Zeki Basan, two stewards of outdoor knowledge, you will step into the rhythms of coastal life, learning and tasting as you go.

In the beginning, you arrive on Eilean Sionnach via your own private boat transfer, the salt air sharp and bracing, the sound of the waves carrying centuries of stories.

The island stands quiet and steadfast beneath the gaze of the lighthouse, a beacon for sailors and now for seekers of calm, adventure, and connection.

A Morning of Discovery with Zeki Basan

The day begins with Zeki, a wilderness expert raised in the heart of the Cairngorms. On the island’s rocky shores, he shares the quiet craft of coastal survival—skills passed down through generations.

With Zeki you’ll learn old highland survival skills of foraging for wild edibles making fire from specific coastal stones and learn skills that allowed people to live by the Scottish coast.

Zeki’s approach is thoughtful and measured, connecting you not just to the how, but the why of these traditions.

A Feast of Coastal Flavours with Yaz Basan

The afternoon belongs to Yaz, whose passion for Scotland’s natural bounty turns foraged ingredients into something extraordinary. Together, you’ll explore the shoreline for seaweed, harvesting the vibrant “red pepper dulse.” Once dried and smoked, you’ll grind it with mortar and pestle, creating a spice to take home—a small taste of the island’s essence.

When the work is done, you’ll sit down to a coastal feast, featuring hand-dived seafood and dishes that reflect the pure, honest flavours of this place. If you’re feeling bold, Yaz can lead you into the cold, clear waters for wild swimming or snorkelling—a bracing end to the day that will leave you refreshed and alive.

Details of the Experience

This bespoke adventure is designed for groups of up to six guests, priced at £250 per head (the sixth guest comes free, £1,250 total). Boat transport is arranged at £150 per trip, with additional costs for any equipment hire.

It’s more than a day out—it’s a way of seeing the island and yourself in a different light, through the hands and eyes of two young people who live in rhythm with the land and sea.

This is an experience for those who seek something deeper—a connection to history, nature, and tradition. You may travel far and wide, but won’t find this anywhere else.

Your bespoke adventure can be booked and arranged once you have booked your stay in the cottage. Simply let us know by email that you wish to add on the Coastal Adventure Package.
